DUSA Exec statement on Supreme Court ruling and support for trans students
We are disappointed by the Supreme Court’s ruling that “the terms woman and sex in the Equality Act 2010 refer to a biological woman and biological sex.”
Are you a student at Dundee University who wants to make a difference on campus? Do you want to help your fellow students who are struggling with the cost of living? If so, DUSA needs your help!
DUSA is currently recruiting volunteers to help run two important cost-of-living provisions on campus: the Campus Pantry and the Breakfast Club. These provisions are designed to provide students with access to free food and other necessities, ensuring that no student goes hungry or struggles to make ends meet while studying.
The Campus Pantry is a food bank that provides free food and other essential items to students who are struggling to afford groceries. The Breakfast Club, on the other hand, supplies free breakfast to students who might not have time to eat before morning lectures or who cannot afford to buy breakfast on their own.
To run these provisions, DUSA needs volunteers who are committed, reliable, and passionate about helping others. Volunteers will handle a range of tasks, including stocking the pantry shelves, preparing breakfast items, and serving students. In return, volunteers will gain valuable experience working in a team, building their communication and organizational skills, and making a positive impact on their community.
If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer, simply fill out the application form on the MYDUSA website. The application process is simple and straightforward, and you’ll be asked to supply some basic information about yourself and your availability. Once your application has been received, you’ll be invited to attend an orientation session where you’ll learn more about the provisions and your role as a volunteer.
We’d also like to give special mentions to Anna Broggi (Business Support Officer) and Dumindu Nukulasooriya (Executive PA) for their hard work and dedication in running these provisions as well as the continued support of the wider DUSA staff. The recruitment of volunteers has been a great addition to the running of these provisions, and we are grateful to everyone who has contributed to their success. Without their tireless efforts, the Campus Pantry and Breakfast Club would not be possible.
We’d also like to give a special shout-out to the volunteers who have worked tirelessly to make the Campus Pantry and Breakfast Club a success. These dedicated individuals include Sharika Benny, Viktoriia Yevsiokova, Sidra tul Mintaha, Sofiia Tsibii, Iman Mohammed, Aditi Rosita Rao, Beverly Muranganwa, Akeim Ilegue, and Cristina Peig. We are grateful for their commitment and enthusiasm, and we are proud to have them as part of the DUSA team.
In addition to volunteering for the Campus Pantry and Breakfast Club, DUSA also offers other exciting opportunities for students to get involved in their community. One such opportunity is the Litter Picking initiative, which aims to keep the campus and surrounding areas clean and tidy. Volunteers will be responsible for collecting litter and disposing of it properly, promoting a cleaner and more sustainable environment for everyone.
Another opportunity to get involved with is Speak Easy, a peer support program that provides a safe and confidential space for students to talk about their mental health and wellbeing. Volunteers will undergo comprehensive training to become active listeners and learn how to support their peers effectively. By volunteering for Speak Easy, you’ll be helping to break down the stigma surrounding mental health and providing an invaluable service to your fellow students.
Whether you choose to volunteer for the Campus Pantry and Breakfast Club or one of the other opportunities offered by DUSA, you’ll be making a positive impact on your community and gaining valuable skills and experience along the way. Don’t hesitate to get involved and see the difference you can make!
In conclusion, volunteering with DUSA is a great way to make a positive impact on your community and gain valuable experience at the same time. By joining the team, you’ll be helping your fellow students and contributing to a more inclusive and supportive campus environment. So why not apply today and make a difference in the lives of your peers?
