DUSA Exec statement on Supreme Court ruling and support for trans students
We are disappointed by the Supreme Court’s ruling that “the terms woman and sex in the Equality Act 2010 refer to a biological woman and biological sex.”
Dear Students,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and prayers to all the innocent lives lost and the people affected in this humanitarian crisis.
Our initial statement aimed to emphasize the well-being of our students as the most significant and immediate support we can provide as an organisation. We stand united in our belief that every human life is of immeasurable worth, and the suffering of one is the suffering of all. It is in this spirit that we implore you to join us in advocating for a swift and humane resolution to this heart-breaking conflict.
We formally address this, request an immediate ceasefire, and urge the opening of a humanitarian corridor, allowing food water, electricity and fuel into the city of Gaza.
During these disheartening times, we want to urge our student community to extend a deeper understanding of the situation and stand in solidarity with their fellow students.
We understand that many students have strong feelings about the ongoing conflict. It is crucial to emphasize that none of our student communities, whether they are Palestinian, Israeli, Jewish, Muslim, or from any other background, bear responsibility for the actions of the Israeli state or Hamas. It is essential not to impose specific political stances on them based on their identity or appearance in relation to these events.
We stand united against hate crime in all its forms.
We acknowledge how distressing this crisis is for our community. In a time that is incredibly painful for many students, it is essential that we choose to support, listen to, and care for one another.
In this time of crisis, let our collective humanity be the beacon that guides us toward a brighter and more hopeful future for all those impacted by this conflict.
