University of Dundee Wins Varsity Trophy

A big day for the University of Dundee Sports Union

24 March 2023

University of Dundee Sports Union has won the Varsity trophy in the city’s largest amateur sporting event, with more than 600 student-athletes from Dundee and Abertay taking part in the inter-university event. The University of Dundee won 14 games, and Abertay University won 5 games.

This means the University of Dundee retains the Varsity trophy for another year. The University of Dundee and Abertay students displayed phenomenal performances throughout the competition.

Sarah Roddick, Sports Union President at Dundee, said, “Varsity 2023 was a phenomenal day with our students, both out in a competitive and non-competitive force, displaying fantastic comradery. Our teams celebrated a strong overall Varsity victory against Abertay University with students piling into ISE to watch the Men’s Basketball finale together. An incredible effort from all who were involved – students and staff alike. Roll on Varsity 2024!”

Reverend Dr Fiona Douglas (University Chaplain’s) daughter dressed up as Piper in the Men’s Basketball finale – we had a mini Piper mascot for the match!

The bar/food and DEMS stall was a great success at Riverside when the sun finally decided to shine over the final Riverside match – Men’s Football 11s.

After the final match, the victorious Dundee team was presented with the Tay Varsity Challenge Trophy. We are incredibly proud of our team and their achievement. You can connect with the team here.
