DUSA Exec statement on Supreme Court ruling and support for trans students
We are disappointed by the Supreme Court’s ruling that “the terms woman and sex in the Equality Act 2010 refer to a biological woman and biological sex.”
Every year on International Women’s Day, we try to recognise the inspiring women around us and give them much-deserved recognition, in order to develop an inclusive space- we talk about creating equal opportunities and breaking the glass ceiling. Where there has always been a focus on women’s rights, equality, inclusivity, fairness and unbiased treatment.
This International Women’s Day 2023, we go beyond and with equality, we talk about the need for “Equity” which emphasises individuals getting what they need to start, as not everybody starts from the same place and that’s where societies and organisations must acknowledge and make adjustments to such imbalances.
The aim of the IWD 2023 #EmbraceEquity campaign theme is to get the world talking about Why equal opportunities aren’t enough. People start from different places, so true inclusion and belonging require equitable action. Read more about this here
@dusadundee Happy International Women's Day! Let's #EmbraceEquity ♬ original sound - DUSA
International women’s day is important to me because it is an opportunity to shine a light on and positively campaign for equality for women until we live in a world where equality for women is the norm. I have zero tolerance for all forms of inequality and discrimination. I call it out wherever I see it or experience it. The ability to stand up for equal rights and challenge discrimination is our greatest power as individuals to end discrimination. It starts with you. #Be kind #embraceequity

This International Women’s Day, I wish more and more women get equal support and also a pathway to succeed in their chosen path. I want women to embrace themselves and stand up for the things they believe in.

Strength grows in the moments when you think you can't go on but you keep going anyway! We all go through struggles and challenges in life but with love, nurturing and compassion you can get through anything in life – what does not kill you makes you stronger!

If an equal world is an ultimate goal then equity is the means to develop that kind of world. When we embrace equity, we embrace diversity, and we embrace inclusion.
For International Women’s Day 2023 and beyond, let’s all fully #EmbraceEquity.
