DUSA Exec statement on Supreme Court ruling and support for trans students
We are disappointed by the Supreme Court’s ruling that “the terms woman and sex in the Equality Act 2010 refer to a biological woman and biological sex.”
The University of Dundee has a dedicated space for learning and developing entrepreneurial skills at the Centre for Entrepreneurship. It is entirely open and accessible for University students, staff members, and recent graduates (up to 2 years) of the University of Dundee and now, for the first time, it is also welcoming the current students of D&A College, Abertay University and the University of St. Andrews. It is a great opportunity for people who want to take their business idea to the next level.
Through the University newsletters, I learned about the Enterprise Challenge hosted by the Centre for Entrepreneurship every semester. I found it intriguing and expressed my interest by registering for the challenge. Honestly, with the studies and assignments, I wasn’t sure enough if I will be able to finish the 8-week Enterprise Challenge but I am glad I could finish it and I also won an award for my idea. I have a mental health blog and my idea was to take it a step ahead with proper mentorship and guidance from industry experts.
Through this post, I want to encourage my friends and fellow University mates to explore this opportunity if you have a business idea, no matter what stage you are at, even if it is just an initial seed of the idea in your mind or you have already progressed a few steps ahead with it, it will prove to be very helpful. The weekly sessions and insights from the industry experts will help you to think beyond and put you actually to work with your idea.
My personal favourite was when we worked on developing the Business Canvas Model, identifying the various factors related to my business idea and what could potentially be the risk factors. And, working on the business pitch presentation with the industry experts. Through the Enterprise Challenge, I could meet with new people, make some genuine connections and network with like-minded people, which I see as a great thing if you want to establish yourself as an entrepreneur in a new environment.
Before the commencement of every new semester, the centre is open for registration and you can enrol yourself for the Enterprise Challenge. It is an extra-curricular programme that allows the students and anybody participating to develop sought-after skills to use in any career. Workshops run from 17:00-19:00 on a Wednesday or Thursday night during the Semester. It can be easily managed with your University routine as it is just a weekly activity.
Over the period of 8 weeks you not only get a chance to hone your soft skills, and develop your entrepreneurial side, but you also get a chance to get funded for your business idea if you win the pitch presentation, that’s the finale.
The Challenge offers £1,500 worth of funding to those who wish to take their idea forward at the end of the competition and gives a huge platform to aspiring entrepreneurs who simply want to showcase their progress over the 8 weeks. It gives you a kind of validation when you present your business idea pitch in front of the panel members and get constructive feedback.
Participants are awarded certificates for attending the seven workshops and participating in the live pitching final.
You can follow the Centre for Entrepreneurship on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram to hear the latest updates from the programme.
